Scales

  • Spike-proof: linear up to about $100, compressed above it, so one spike doesn't flatten everything else.
  • Capped: linear up to $600; anything higher is clipped and marked at the top.
  • Linear: a plain scale, showing spikes at their true size.

Dispatch or final prices

The live week shows dispatch prices from the real-time feed. History uses the Electricity Authority's final prices once published, usually the next day; under scarcity the two can differ a lot.

Two kinds of average

Time-weighted counts every interval the same. Generation-weighted counts each interval by how much was generated, so busy peaks count for more.

Islands priced apart

Shaded where Haywards and Benmore differ by more than $10 and 10%, usually because the HVDC link or the grid near it is at a limit.

Times are New Zealand time. Trading periods (TP) are the market's half-hour periods, numbered from midnight. Generation is dispatch (the market's 5-minute targets), not metered output.
